Well even though the innuendo is strong the fact is still true – Google has made the search box larger on the website, and I am not sure why! For some reason this seems to be news around the web and it’s very strange to me that people are talking about it, so I thought I would comment (and why not!).
As you can see below, the search input box is definitely bigger but they have also increased the font size. In my view, pointless other than for people with vision problems.
Why did they do this? Apparently they are trying to make sure that we all know that their company focus is still search. Did we need that reminder? And if we did need a reminder did this change solidify it?
What’s really funny (I was reminded of this from another article) is that they just got approval for their patent request for their homepage… then made a change! I think that this would format still falls under the patent – it’s just a funny coincidence.
So in the end, a lot of people talking about it – but it’s still just Google has a bigger box.
