A personal look at tech and its uses in my daily life

We all have to live with our climate and we all have pluses and minuses where we live, but I think mine are worse in Montreal than someone’s in Las Vegas. They may disagree and in that case we both need the Honeywell TE923W Deluxe Weather Station. These are completely useless gadgets, the kind that rock when you get them for Christmas. I could lose a few hours setting up something like this and then I would be sure to look at it everyday.

The Honeywell is cool because it measures all of the common weather data and can connect to your PC:

    Weather
    • 12 to 24 hour weather forecast
    • 24 hour barometric pressure history chart
    • 8-channel capability-accepts up to 4 additional
    sensors (sold separately)
    • Programmable ice warning alarm
    • Indoor/Outdoor Temperature & Humidity
    • Infrared remote control of all display’s functions

    Included sensors:
    • Anemometer measures wind speed and direction
    • Rain gauge measures rainfall amount
    • Wireless UV sensor measures UV levels
    • Thermo-hygrometer measures temperature and humidity
    • 200 weather records without PC connection
    • PC software (included) and USB port
    • Operating range from 100 feet (30 meters) up to
    328 feet (100 meters)

If you have a geek that is remotely interested in weather then this is the gadget for them!

    Geek on.

According to Veit—editor-in-chief of Computer Shopper magazine from 1983 to 1988—Steve Jobs contacted him when his computer shop in New York was taking off big time. On the phone, Steve convinced him about having to check out this amazing new computer, which according to the Jobster was “insanely great” (or something like that).

Hi, Steve Jobs Here: The First Apple Tech Support Call Ever.

Have you ever thought of replacing your computer case with something else? Some of us really lazy geeks don’t even bother with a case, we just have it all laying out and about. Well this guy decided to forgo the case go with Lego to support his computer parts: take a look here.

I like the way he has a set of small blue doors that open to help cool the MicroATX power supply!

    Is technology normal?

Aaaackk, what a question! This one is a thinker folks. I was in the midst of computer anarchy; what with three systems on the repair list. Then there is my eternally incomplete computer which resides near to where the repairs take place. In this middle of all this I was thinking about how difficult it is to come up with new and exciting marterial to write about on the blog and *BLAM*; it came to me.

I am surrounded by the technology that I love for myself and love to share with others. My reason for blogging is just that. My desire to share any knowledge or insight that I may have with those interested in hearing about it in my own particular style. SO! This is where the subject of normalcy or regularity comes about. I am in the middle of a pile (literally) of computer junk and techy parts and I find it so ‘normal’.

Is that just me? Do we as a society think of technology as normal? I guess we can point a finger at the computer if we like. If we need to define technology we can go there first. I know people still to this day that do not know how to even power on a machine, much less use it.

Am I so imersed in my own garb that I don’t see that most people are still on the other side of the fence on this one? There is so much technology in everything that we do, every day! It stands to think that most people would be used to it by now. I remember back in the day when people were afraid to make a mistake on a computer for the fear of corrupting something or having it stop working.

So I ask you! Do you feel like the computer is still this cloud in the room that is used out of preassure? Or do you embrace this tool as a part of everyday life.

I hope it’s the latter because then, and only then can you appreciate what it really can do.

Think about it, feel free to comment.
